Whether you’re a recent graduate or have some sales experience in another industry, you’ll join one of our Sales Development Programmes which have been designed to accelerate competence and confidence within the sales role across our corporate, public sector, and specialist sales areas. The programmes focus on behaviours and provide support and structured training, with a clear route of progression across each division.

SALES EXECUTIVE You'll likely join the team as a Sales Executive. In your first 12 months, you enjoy comprehensive training and build your confidence working with customers.

ACCOUNT MANAGER Your role will naturally evolve into Account Manager. You’ll have the freedom to run and develop your own accounts - and really show what you can do. Your earnings will grow with your achievements. SENIOR ACCOUNT MANAGER Prefer to focus on growing your own business? Then your ideal career path is to progress as a Senior Account Manager, then Account Director and Senior Account Director. Slide DECISION TIME! Once you’ve proven yourself as an Account Manager, you have a decision to make. Continue to progress in Sales Account Management or if you enjoy leadership and developing the potential in others, then Softcat’s Team Management route is for you. MENTOR Your leadership path will begin around 18-24 months in, when you can take the first step into people management as a Mentor to new colleagues. DEPUTY TEAM LEADER You can advance to a Deputy Team Leader position, likely to be around 24-32 months. As well as managing your own business, you'll support the Team Leader in co-managing a number of Account Managers. TEAM LEADER If you achieve personal and team success, you could make Team Leader in a further 18 months. That’ll provide significant quarterly bonus opportunities for you. SALES MANAGER Next up, you’ll be responsible for managing a number of teams, as well as your own business. It’s a big job with big rewards. Slide LATERAL MOVES You could also choose to progress laterally, for example by specialising in a specific technology or switching to a different client sector. We'll always be as flexible as possible to support your growth, wherever you want to go.

    We sometimes use short video interviews as part of the initial assessment process – they’re quick and convenient, and you can do them on your phone or laptop.


    Instead of a video interview, we may arrange a short telephone interview. We’ll discuss your talents and career goals and see if there’s a rapport there.


    If you impress in the video/phone interview stage, you’ll be invited to a hosted virtual assessment centre. It’s a chance to show us your people skills and personal qualities – and you can learn more about Softcat and meet some of your potential future colleagues.


    Do well at your assessment centre, and we’ll invite you to a webex/vitual interview with a Deputy/Team Leader. It helps to confirm that we are definitely a good match for each other.


    You’re almost there. You’ll talk on the phone to the Softcat Sales Manager for your office. The interview digs deeper into your character, skills and career goals.


    We’ll let you know almost instantly whether you’ll be offered a permanent role at Softcat. You’ll start with fellow new-joiners on one of our regular intake dates across the year.
