About the Role

The Data Governance Executive plays a key role in supporting the implementation and day-to-day operation of Softcat's Data Governance framework. Working under the direction of the Data Governance Manager, help ensure that data across the organisation is trusted, high-quality and governed.

This role is hands-on and operational, providing essential support for governance processes such as data quality, data standards, metadata management, and issue management. Working closely with Data Owners, IT teams and the wider Data Management team to embed consistent governance practices across domains.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing Data Governance policies, standards and procedures. Maintain documentation including data quality rules, definitions, and flows. Help drive adoption of governance processes across business units.
  • Support the rollout of governance tools (e.g., data catalogue, metadata repositories). Support the Data Governance Manager in the adoption of these tools within Softcat.
  • Conduct regular checks to assess data accuracy, completeness, and consistency. Support profiling activities and contribute to data remediation tasks. Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on data issues.
  • Work alongside the Data Management Executives to ensure alignment between Data Governance and Data Management processes. Provide guidance to business users on data governance expectations and best practices. Support the Data Governance Manger in engagement with Data Owners.
  • Maintain business glossaries, data dictionaries, and metadata as directed by the Data Governance Manager. Contribute to documenting lineage, definitions, and governance controls. Support in the development of business facing models.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline Data Governance processes or enhance data quality. Share knowledge and innovations with the wider Data Management team.

 

We'd love you to have

  • Good understanding of data governance principles (quality, lineage, metadata, ownership).
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills, able to convey data concepts clearly.
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders across business and technical teams.
  • Experience working with data in an operational or analytical capacity.
  • Experience with data governance or data management tools (e.g., MS Purview, Master Data Management tools, Data Quality monitoring platforms)
  • Familiarity with Data Models (Conceptual, Logical, Physical) and Data Flow Diagrams.

  • Familiarity with Data Models
