Job title: Internal Recruiter
As a member of our recruitment team, Polly has a great insight into what attracts people to Softcat. We talked to her about her role at Softcat and the culture of the business.
How did you come to join Softcat?
I live in the Marlow area, so I was very aware of Softcat as a popular local employer. Knowing a few people that worked there, I’d also heard good things about the office environment and the way they treated employees.
What’s involved in your role as a recruiter?
My job involves ensuring we recruit the right people into the business. So, I review applications, run assessment days, conduct interviews and attend recruitment events.
What is the most interesting project that you’ve worked on?
Taking on the apprenticeship scheme recruitment has been extremely rewarding as well as interesting. People’s perceptions of apprenticeships are changing for the better, and Softcat are extremely invested in giving younger people a chance to kick start their career.
Tell us the best thing about your job?
The variety of people I get to liaise with on a day-to-day basis. No day is the same! My team are incredibly supportive of one another. We do a great job of identifying each other’s strengths and using them to the team’s advantage.
How important is the Softcat culture in attracting new people?
Very. When people come in to meet us they can see how people-focused the culture is. The business knows that happy employees equal happy customers, and that is extremely evident to me. No one is malicious, everyone is supportive of each other and genuinely encourages others to succeed and celebrate everyone’s successes.
How has Softcat helped you to learn and grow?
Softcat have genuinely helped me become a more mature, all-rounded individual. With this being my first proper job, I had a lot to learn starting out. Now I have an exciting career ahead of me knowing there are abundant opportunities to develop personally.
What’s been your most rewarding experience so far?
Last year I organised the call centre held at Softcat to take donations for Comic Relief. It is always an incredibly rewarding experience anyway, but to see my hard work organising the event being paid off by witnessing all the donations flooding in… was very emotional!
What does success at Softcat mean to you?
The idea of success is different to different people and Softcat are great at identifying that. Whether that’s a promotion or breaking a personal target that you have set yourself, no matter how big or small, it will be acknowledged and celebrated.
What would you say to someone thinking of joining Softcat?
You won’t regret it! Work hard, and you will be rewarded with the opportunities to grow. You’ll also be in for a great ride along the way.
